Excursions around Munich
Munich is surrounded by some of the most stunning landscapes in Germany. The Alps, marvelous mountain lakes, magical castles and monasteries are only a stone’s throw away. Thus, whenever you are visiting Munich, make sure to find some peace and quiet in the area surrounding the city!
Munich residents’ favourite "bath tub". They love to come here on the weekends, for swimming, to go for a walk or ride the bike… Other places worth visiting in the area around Starnberger See are the Buchheim Museum (“Museum of Fantasy”) and Andechs Monastery.
Monastry of Andechs
The Monastry of Andechs (Kloster Andechs) is one of the favorite getaways for Munich's inhabitants. On beautiful days you'll have a hard time finding a place in the beer garden, and the 15th century monastry is definitly worth a trip!

There are many more nicely situated lakes in Munichs surroundings, like the Chiemsee with Castle Herrenchiemsee and the Fraueninsel, the Schliersee with the little island "Werth" or the Spitzingsee.
Another beautiful destination is the famous Tegernsee, where you can put your gambling skills on a test at the casino in Bad Wiessee, or just walk through the picturesque old town of Rottach-Egern. In Winter, don't miss to go sleighriding at the Wallberg!
Neuschwanstein and Linderhof
The fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein is Bavaria’s most famous sight. Linderhof Palace is a gem of landscape gardening and a magnificent example of baroque and rococo decoration.
Castle Schleissheim & Flugwerft
Magnificent rooms and a wonderful baroque garden entice numerous visitors every year. The Flugwerft’s exhibition halls, which are part of the German Museum, invite you to take a walk through the history of aircraft construction.
