Family time in the Rheingau region
The Rheingau region is the perfect place to spend some exciting days with the family as it offers a wide range of activities and excursions to satisfy both children and grown-ups. Prepare for an unforgettable time with the whole family!
Hiking and biking
Naturally, all hiking and biking tours listed under the item „activities“ are suitable for families travelling with children as well. Depending on the age of your little ones, you might want to choose an easier or a shorter route or stage. The trips might also take you more time as you should allow for more frequent breaks.
Adventures, action and swimming
Water fun, Taunus Wonderland and adventure playground
On particularly hot days, make sure to visit the Asbach Outdoor Pool in Rüdesheim to cool down. The pool is open from mid-May until mid-September and allows for stunning views as it is located right next to the river Rhine. Apart from a regular pool for swimmers, you will find a diving tower, a current channel, a waterfall and jets for a neck massage. The ample children’s area is beautifully designed and features bottom bubbles and a small water slide.
If you are looking for adventures and action, you simply must head out to the Taunus Wonderland. This amusement park features attractions for visitors of all ages. The numerous log rides and rollercoasters, in particular the famous Taunusblitz rollercoaster, are great fun for adults and older children. Smaller children will love the clown slide, the bugs roundabout, the petting zoo or the mega ball pool.
Less thrilling, but a rather creative experience is the adventure playground in the “Auf der Lach” leisure park in Rüdesheim. Children and parents can play on a wobbly suspension bridge, a giant slide, several swings and seesaws as well as a soccer field. If you are tired from jumping around all day and ready for a break, enjoy a relaxing picnic on the lawn.
An alternative for rainy days is the Indoor Amusement and Fun Park in Bad Schwalbach – the perfect place for kids (and grown-ups) to play and climb around.
Guided tours for kids
Visit the Eberbach Monastery to catch up on your culture after all the exciting and adventurous activities. Every first Sunday of the month, the monastery organizes special tours for kids to make children from the age of 6 discover the life as a monk in a playful manner. All questions your children might have will be answered here. Adults can take part in a regular tour in the meantime.
The City of Eltville offers themed city tours and excursions for children only – no matter if they are tourists or locals.
The Rheingau region offers several locations where you can watch different kinds of animals first hand. If your children are fond of riding, visit the Ebental Farm, located a few kilometers outside of Rüdesheim, which is home to more than 50 ponies including Haflinger or Shetland ponies. Parents and toddlers can enjoy a carriage ride. The Farm Café sells refreshing drinks and tasty snacks.
At the Lama and Alpaca Farm Kisselmühle, visitors can find out everything there is to know about the cute camelids and go on an exciting lama or camel trekking tour. Depending on the size of the animals and the tour you booked, you can enjoy a short ride on the back of a camel or a snack including pretzels, a regional cheese specialty called “Spundekäs”, juice and wine.
Toys, model railway and instruments
Rüdesheim offers two museums that are perfectly suited for both children and grown-ups. The Toy Museum displays toys manufactured over the past 100 years. Parents can show their children the toys they or their grandparents loved to play with. Railway fans will certainly enjoy the huge model railway of the Rhine valley.
Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet displays numerous kinds of self-playing instruments from all over the world.
